ARTIST STATEMENT
“Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles.”
- J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
My troubles are recorded within every artwork that I’ve made, with situations of ‘not knowing’ both hindering and fuelling the context behind my work. I’ve created a practice whereby I feel I am responding to issues much greater than I currently understand. To combat this realisation, I approach the issues with a constant underlying sense of humour and idiosyncratic personal opinion, by carrying through an idea that feels current and relevant.
I have started to think of my practice as an artistic rendition of J.D. Salinger’s ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ a semi autobiographical train of thought that ends at no real conclusion.
